A common problem with the clean and snatch is a completely vertical extension of the body. Because we’re trying to elevate the bar in a nearly vertical path, the body must move out of the way–this means a slight layback at the top. This layback also keeps the bar over the base of support. Often coupled with this vertical extension is a swing or bounce of the bar away from the body. Each supports the other and generally cause a jump forward to receive or a complete miss forward. Keep your weight centered just in front of your heels and always pull the bar into your body.
This may also help you avoid hitting yourself in the face doing snatches also.
