Be an Athletic Supporter….

JakeArticles, Endurance

If you’re smelling blue liquid all over the place, you’ve either passed out behind the porta johns at Coachella, or it’s race time in Richmond!

The Richmond Marathon, Half Marathon and 8K are on Saturday the 15th. We already know it’s going to be tough to get around so why not get outside early and cheer some people on?

We all know the power of support. It could come during a really tough wod you’re having trouble finishing, or when you’re trying to hit that PR weight. Maybe you compete and just knowing your friends are there to support you has you doing your best.

You may think your voice doesn’t carry a lot of weight in a sea of spectators, but it does. Nothing bolsters the competitive spirit like a familiar face showing support. Wear your RVA gear and let everyone around know that we are a strong community of athletes so don’t piss us off.

You may see some familiar faces from the RVA Endurance group out there. Tere is running her 2nd full marathon with RVA alum Stephanie Hallam. Erin, Audrey and Melissa are tackling the half, and Eileen will be running the 8K. Also, be on the lookout for bib number  702 for a surprise RVA runner.

There may be other familiar faces on the street so keep your eyes open. There are also a few family and friends of RVA running, so best of luck to everyone!

Some good places to watch from are near Sugar Shack,  Lombardy and W Grace, Monroe Park, Boulevard and Brookland Pkwy, or just stick close to home. Track your favorite runners and you’ll get text or emails to hear how they are doing.

As if that wasn’t enough, The Rebels are gearing up for our 3rd annual Tacky Lights Run. It’s a 6 mile course that goes past some of the best lit houses around. We are still finalizing a date, but it will be sometime in the first two weeks of December. This is open to everyone and is not for Crossfit RVA folk only. Bring your friends, family, pets. As long as they can handle a slow 6 miles with lots of stops for pictures. Did I mention it’s free?

Wear your worst holiday sweater, and bring a snack to share. There are usually cookies and cupcakes and sometimes champagne after the run.

One last thing. It’s time to put your money where someone else’s mouth is..(wait, that didn’t sound right) Us crossfitters are always talking about proper eating habits and it’s time to share. Starting Monday you will see some posters up around the gym along with some large white boxes.  These boxes aren’t for empty Kill Cliff cans, they’re for food donations to FeedMore. Feedmore is the result of a merger between The Central Virginia Food Bank and Meals on Wheels. They provide food for needy families, children and seniors. You can get more details at their website including info on how to make a monetary donation in case shopping isn’t your thing as well as a list of most needed foods during the holiday season. Remember that Kill Cliff can I mentioned? For the price of a Kill Cliff you can provide a few meals to hungry children. (Jamie could feed a school in a week)

We’re calling this Program “Dip, Drive, Donate” and if each of our members brought in one soup can, or jar of peanut butter we would help a lot of people. The boxes should be around starting on Monday and through the first week of December. We would really like to thank Jake and Gerry for giving us this opportunity to help out.
