Why Run When You Can Race?

JakeEndurance

RVA Endurance is Tuesday mornings at 6am and Thursday night at 5:30pm

First, I want to thank everyone who made our first week of official RVA Endurance wods. I saw some new faces this week, and I hope to see more in the weeks and months to come.  There are a few races coming up that some of are excited about and it would be great to get more people to sign up.

The first is the Maymont X-Country Festival. This one is practically in our backyard. There are two races, a 5K on Friday the 27th, and an 8 mile trail race on Saturday the 28th. Some of us are signed up for the Trail run. I did it last year with very little trail training and I’m looking forward to this one. For more info go to:

Don’t get discouraged by the “not for walkers” disclaimer. If you crossfit, you are more than capable of handling the terrain and can complete 8 miles within 2 hours.

There is also the 3rd Annual Rare 5 Miler. Rare Crossfit is an affiliate up in Fredericksburg with a lot of focus on Endurance and hosts its own Endurance events. The 5 Mile trail race includes additional physical challenges at each mile marker. This is a crossfit event so none of the challenges should be unfamiliar. The video shows thrusters, KB swings and burpees so expect movements like that. I’ve heard great things about these events and we can make a strong RVA showing. The race is on October 13th. Tere and I are signing up and carpooling is an option.

Last but not least is the upcoming Richmond Marathon, Half Marathon and 8K all on November 16th. Having done all three of these and facing my first Marathon this year since 2006 I know how exhausting and satisfying these races can be. There’s nothing like having thousands of your neighbors cheer you on no matter what the distance. If you’re new to running and just want a goal race, I would suggest the 8K just for the experience. If you are interested in any of these races, or are already signed up and wondering how to supplement your Crossfit routine with more Endurance type programming, come join us at one of the Endurance wods. Any of the instructors can point you in my direction if we haven’t met, or head over to the RVA Endurance Facebook page and introduce yourself.

I’m going to be getting the hang of this for a while, and I appreciate everyone’s patience.  My next post shouldn’t be so late. As it is, I’m still wondering why I volunteered to be at a 6am class.

See you around
