Brandon "Gerry" Leary

Operations Manager

Instructor

Brandon@rvaperformancetraining.com

  • BS in Exercise Science/ Kinesiology
  • USAW Level 1
  • USA Track & Field Level 1
  • CrossFit Level 1, 2 Certificate Holder

Gerry found his way into fitness through Olympic Weightlifting, attending his first meet at CrossFit RVA. While finishing his degree in Exercise Science at VCU, he interned with the gym and quickly became part of the coaching staff—working from part-time to full-time between 2013 and 2021. After nearly a decade in the industry, Gerry shifted gears and pursued fine furniture woodworking in Vermont and Maine. During that time, he explored a range of gym models and training philosophies, broadening his perspective on what effective, inclusive fitness can look like today.
Gerry’s coaching style is friendly, movement-focused, and driven by options. He aims to not only give clients the workout they came in for, but to help them move a little better or learn something new every time they train. His thoughtful approach is backed by certifications including CrossFit Level 1 and 2, USA Weightlifting Level 1, and USA Track & Field Level 1.
Outside the gym, Gerry enjoys spending time with his cats, woodworking, cleaning (yes, really), and taking in live classical music and theater.

Having tried big box gyms with all sorts of machines and equipment, having the structure and low barrier to entry allowed him to grow and appreciate the sport even more. After moving back to the east coast in 2017 and joining a gym in Northern Virginia, he acquired is L1 and has enjoyed coaching ever since.

Alex works hard to acknowledge and understand what drives each individual member, so you will often see him socializing with people around the gym, always with a smile on his face. His passion to see individual growth and development in everyone who walks in is what keeps him coming back to coach each class!

    Megan Adams

    Instructor

    • CrossFit Level 1 Certificate Holder

Megan grew up as an athlete and always wanted to try CrossFit but was intimidated by the space. After an ACL reconstruction in 2020, she finally started her CrossFit journey at Solidarity Crossfit in Charlottesville. She immediately fell in love with the sport and particularly enjoyed the inclusivity and feeling of community. Feeling strong and fit is important to Megan’s mental (and physical) health and she loves encouraging others to find what makes them feel most capable too. She is passionate about the impact exercise has beyond physical fitness. She believes it can be a powerful catalyst for mental and emotional health. Outside of the gym, she’s on a run, crocheting, or hanging with her bulldog, Hank.

    Don Tran

    Instructor

    • CrossFit Level 2 Certificate Holder

Don never saw himself as an athlete. Fitness was just a way to impress others, and he thought health problems from inactivity were for older people. But when his weight and lifestyle nearly kept him out of the military, reality hit. Still, instead of changing his habits, he did the bare minimum to pass fitness requirements.

In 2014, everything shifted. Watching the CrossFit Games with friends, he was struck by one question: “Why can’t I do this?” At 26, he joined his first gym, starting his real fitness journey.

Don’s takeaway for anyone, whether lifelong athlete or beginner, is summed up in Bill Bowerman’s words:

“If you have a body, you’re an athlete.”

Growing up as a multi-sport athlete—competing in soccer, swimming, and volleyball—Josh was always drawn to how movement and fitness challenge people to push past their limits and unlock their full potential. But it wasn’t until 2021 that he discovered his love for group fitness and strength training. After his previous gym closed, Josh joined RVA Performance Training in 2025, seeking a locally owned gym with a strong sense of community.

Outside the gym, you’ll still find him on the field, in the pool, or on the court, embracing the sports he loves. When he’s not staying active, he enjoys cooking his way through New York Times recipes and taking on whatever fitness challenge catches his interest next.

She is big on educating her clients - teaching them proper form & tweaks to get the most out of their movements as well as the “why” behind their workouts.
Liz is coming to RVAPT from her gym that she owns in her hometown of Buffalo, NY & is so excited to start a new chapter in Richmond!
