We will hold ONE HEAT via ZOOM for this event, 930am.
A team of 4 Navy SEALs led by LT. Michael P. Murphy on a mission to capture or kill a key Taliban leader, found themselves seriously outnumbered in a firefight with hundreds of enemy troops. Pinned down and under intense enemy fire, their communications operator severely wounded, they were in desperate need of help. Due to the mountainous terrain, their communications could not be received. Understanding the situation, LT. Michael P. Murphy moved to open ground, to use his satellite phone, exposing himself to enemy fire. LT Murphy was mortally wounded making that call.
They continued fighting until Lt Murphy and two of his three teammates were mortally wounded. His fourth team member, severely injured himself, managed to escape and was rescued 4 days later. He went on to tell the story in a book and movie titled “The Lone Survivor”.
For his selfless leadership, courageous actions and extraordinary devotion to duty, LT. Michael P. Murphy was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor, the first service member to receive the medal for service in Afghanistan, and the first Navy recipient of the medal since Vietnam.
The Event at RVA Performance Training – Monday, May 25, 2020
Every year on Memorial Day, Americans honor those who have fallen serving the United States Armed Forces. At RVA Performance Training, we have a tradition of supporting military oriented charities by completing “Murph” the workout on Memorial Day. This year, despite the current pandemic we know Memorial Day is so much bigger than us and would love for you to join us from the comfort of your home as we continue to practice social distancing while supporting our veterans.
This is a community event open for EVERYONE! Registration is free and participants are never required to donate, but everyone is encouraged to contact FRIENDS and FAMILY to join us on Zoom for this unforgettable Memorial Day workout!
DON’T BE DISCOURAGED
If you can’t do the entire workout, not many can. Just like our classes here at RVAPT, we will ‘virtually’ offer multiple modifications of “Murph” for ALL SKILL LEVELS including scaling the run, reps, movements, or even partitioning the workout as a team. The idea is to challenge yourself and do a little more and go a little faster each year. At RVA Performance Training there is no such thing as a workout you “can’t” do so don’t let that hold you back from a GREAT event!
Beginners or non-members of unconfirmed experience level will be scaled or partnered accordingly by RVA Performance Training coaches before our Murph event to discuss form and modifications.
Fill out our ONLINE WAIVER HERE to skip this step on the day of the event.
