TL;DR – Fit and Performance are changing!
Towards the first of the year, I knew I had to make a choice: coast out the rest of our lease (through 2028) and hang it up after that, or negotiate a renewal and reinvest the needed time, money, and effort to make our gym something that will be strong and healthy for many years to come.
For the past several months, Kathryn, Heather, Gerry, and I have been working in the background to revamp our group training program, and I couldn’t be more excited to share it with you all.
Later this year, Fit and Performance will cease to exist, and we will have a unified strength and conditioning group training program.
The program will be grounded in a high level of structure, progression, as well as the delivery of exceptional coaching. This change will allow us to focus our attention and resources on one program, so that we can deliver something truly exceptional.
The new class structure will be built around a dual-track system, tentatively named Endure and Build. Both tracks will operate within the same class, allowing members to train together in a cohesive environment while still addressing their personal goals and needs.
- Build: strength, control, and structural development, with clear progression over time.
- Endure: conditioning, strength endurance, and work capacity.
We’re taking our many years of experience running Fit and Performance, and building something more intentional, more polished, and more effective, while still feeling very much like us.
The space is getting a full transformation too. We’re redesigning the facility from the ground up: a dedicated recovery space and a much-improved lobby and hangout area. The new training program will be housed in the current Performance space, and will have new flooring, turf, and roughly 90% new equipment: custom power racks, bars, competition bumper plates, cable stations, and more.
You’re going to walk in and know it’s one of the best gyms you’ve ever seen.
A few candid notes on what’s ahead:
- To protect the quality of your experience, we’ll be capping both class sizes and our total membership. Every member gets our full attention.
- Yes, membership rates will be increasing around the first of the year, but not before you’ve had the chance to experience everything new. Every current member will get roughly two months in the new program before any rate change applies. We don’t have exact numbers to share yet, and I’ll be transparent with you as soon as we do.
- We’re committed to giving you far more than what we ask in return. Raising rates without raising the level of service by an even greater degree would be the wrong way to do this, so that’s not what we’re doing.
The timeline:
- Now through fall: we’re preparing the program, the facility, the schedule, and the details. We’re working our asses off to make the gym and this program truly exceptional.
- October or November: the new unified class structure launches.
- January: New membership structure and rates will begin.
All of the above is, as timelines usually go, an educated guess. We will do our best to stick with the above and be transparent and communicative along the way.
I know change can feel uncertain, and it’s completely fair to have reservations.
This is all being done for one reason: to make your time here exceptional and give you long-term progress you can feel and see.
A final note for our Barbell and Personalized Coaching members: while we have plenty of big plans for these programs and that side of the gym, this particular email is specific to our current Fit and Performance members!
Thank you for being part of the gym; We can’t wait to start the next phase with you all!
-Jake
