RVA Performance Training began in 2007, in a small backyard in the Fan district of Richmond, VA.
Myself and a couple of roommates were exploring different ways of training. We had done what was (at the time) the traditional gym workouts; circuits of machines and some dumbbells. Fairly little rhyme or reason.
We kept asking ourselves “What else is there?” We realized that there was much more to working out than we thought. We discovered for ourselves the idea of training as a structured, dedicated pursuit.
We opened the first CrossFit gym in Richmond, and one of the first 150 in existence.
We started the gym because we knew that training was life changing, and we wanted more people around us to experience what we were. We saw how training shapes and develops your perspective on life, your relationships with others, and your relationship with yourself.
February marks 17 years since we opened. The gym, our programs, and our training methods have evolved continuously as we’ve learned from our experiences. What hasn’t changed is our drive to introduce more people to the world of training and all of the positive things that come with it.
Sometimes the daily reality of running a small business makes it easy to forget where we started. But it’s nice to pause for a moment, and think on how far we’ve come, and all the people we’ve met along the way.
