Something that I like to tell folks who are new to exercise and come into RVAPT is that every single person they see- the members participating and laughing with each other in class, the folks over in the barbell section chatting in between lifts, even the coaches – were all new to exercise at some point in their life. They may have even been new to it when coming into RVAPT.
It’s natural to have fears and uncertainties when starting a workout routine. We actually meet with folks every day who are at the beginning of their fitness journey. Here are some common concerns people often face and a few tips on how we address them at RVAPT:
- Fear of Not Knowing What to Do: It’s completely normal to feel overwhelmed by all the exercises and equipment at the gym. At RVAPT, we start with a free intro session (that even can involve working out!), where you and a coach will talk through your experience with exercise and what program will be a good fit for your needs. Whether you decide to hop into RVA Fit, Performance, Barbell, or start Personal Training, you will always have a coach available and ready to help you learn and ultimately master your exercise routine!
- Worry About Looking Out of Place: Everyone starts somewhere, and most people are focused on their own routines. Remember, everyone was a beginner at some point! Depending on which RVAPT program you want to do and your experience with exercise, you may end up completing Elements sessions. These sessions provide 1 on 1 time with a coach to learn any movement you may see in class, talk through modifications, and get you comfortable! And once you’re in class? Our group class coaches will ALWAYS demo every movement and are ready and eager to help when questions come up.
- Fear of Injury: It’s wise to be cautious and learn proper techniques to avoid injuries. This is a large focus of our Elements sessions – making sure that you can complete the exercises safely. If you have a past injury that makes that tricky? We talk through modifications- your safety is our #1 priority (followed by making sure you have fun!).
Starting something new always comes with its challenges, but with patience and persistence, you’ll find your groove. I’m proud of how knowledgeable and approachable our coaching staff is at RVAPT- and how committed they are to ensure that everyone at the gym feels comfortable.
