RVA Barbell Program: We asked the questions so you don’t have to.

What is RVA Barbell?
RVA Barbell is Richmond’s premier Olympic Weightlifting program, is designed to boost your power, strength, and technical skills in the Snatch, Clean & Jerk, and Squat. Our focus is on helping you lift heavier weights with precision and safety.

What happens during a typical class?
Each 90-minute+ session includes Olympic lifts, assistance exercises, and strength-building movements. Training session sizes are kept small so our experienced coaches can provide individualized guidance, ensuring your progress is steady and safe.

Who can join?
We welcome athletes of all experience levels—from complete beginners to seasoned competitors. Everyone trains together, fostering a supportive community under the watchful eye of our coaches.

Do I have to compete?
Not at all! Some of our athletes choose to compete, but it’s totally optional. We’ve coached everyone from hobby lifters to national champions and international competitors.

How do I get started?
You have two options to kick off your weightlifting journey:

  • Barbell Basics: This is our 8-week small group program for beginners. You’ll learn the foundations of weightlifting in a safe, structured way, and by the end, you’ll be performing full Snatches and Clean & Jerks.
  • Barbell Elements: If you prefer a more personalized experience, our discounted 1-on-1 sessions will give you individual coaching tailored to your needs. Over 8 sessions, you’ll gain the confidence and skills to join our group training.
